Today is the last day for candidates to withdraw their nomination papers for the Senate elections
Today is the last day for candidates to withdraw their nomination papers for the Senate elections. Candidates can withdraw nomination papers till 5 pm.
4 candidates Saira Tarar, Saud Majeed, Muhammad Khan Madani and Ijaz Minhas have withdrawn their nomination papers. 18 candidates are still in the fray for 11 Punjab seats. There are 14 candidates in the fray for 7 general seats from Punjab. Two candidates are in the fray for the women’s seat and two for the technocrats’ seat.
PTI’s Zarqa Teymour and PML-N’s Sadia Khaqan Abbasi are the candidates for the women’s seats. Barrister Ali Zafar of PTI and Azam Nazir Tarar of PML-N are contesting for the two technocrat seats. Kamil Ali Agha of PML-Q and Azeem-ul-Haq Minhas of PPP are included in the revised list. The names of PTI’s Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Saifullah Sarwar Khan Niazi, Ejaz Chaudhry, Zaheer Abbas Khokar and Aun Abbas are also included in the list for general seats.
PML-N’s Zahid Hamid, Saif-ul-Muluk Khokhar, Irfan Siddiqui, Baligh-ur-Rehman, Sajid Mir and Afnanullah Khan are also candidates for general seats. League leader Pervez Rashid and Neelam Irshad’s nomination papers from PTI have been rejected. PTI’s Farhat Shahzadi and Ataullah Niazi have withdrawn their nomination papers during the scrutiny.
