Taylor Swift FREE To Re-Record Her Masters & Fans Rejoice!
What’s up? It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and Swifties have been celebrating because Taylor is finally free to re-record her first five albums after all that drama between Scooter Braun and her former label Big Machine Records. In case you forgot, last June Taylor Swift opened up about the ongoing bullying she has received at the hands of Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta from her old label Big Machine Records. In her emotional Tumblr post, Taylor wrote quote, “For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew
once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.” Taylor has since signed with Universal Music Group ahead of her seventh album, “Lover,” specifically so that she could own all of her new work. But over the past year and half, Taylor has been involved in a lot of drama back and forth over her music with Scooter, who manages other A-list stars like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato. Taylor posted about not being able to use her
music in her 2019 American Music Awards performance and Netflix documentary. Other celebs, like Gigi Hadid, even got involved tweeting that Taylor deserves to own her own masters. And Taylor made quite a few references to this whole situation with Scott and Scooter in her music video for The Man. But despite all the drama, it didn’t seem like any real progress or changes have been made over Taylor’s work. Until now. Fans remembered an August 2019 interview on Good Morning America where Taylor revealed exactly when her contract would allow her to re-record her old music so she can regain full control of her entire catalog of albums. “Yeah that’s true and it’s something I’m very excited about doing because my contract says that starting November 2020, so next year, I can record albums one through five all over again
so… you’ll do that. I’m very excited about it!” And welp, believe it or not, we’ve made it to November 2020. Doesn’t it feel like its gone by so fast?? So based on what Taylor said, she can officially start re-recording her albums like Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and more and fans cannot contain their excitement. According to TMZ, while Taylor is reportedly free and clear to re-record her first five albums now, she must wait until 2022 to re-record “Reputation,” as it did not come out until 2017. But regardless, fans are excited to be able to support Taylor’s early albums without supporting Scooter and Scott. Almost immediately at midnight on November 1, 2020, Swifties got “Taylor is free” to trend on
Twitter. Fans were tweeting things like “I want to remind you that for over a year, Taylor had to deal with the fact that the owner of her past albums, photos and videos is someone who bullied her! This month, she will finally break free! TAYLOR IS FREE!” Another person said “the wait is over… no one will take credit for her success or her
accomplishments anymore… TAYLOR IS FREE. i’m just so happy for you babe @taylorswift13 i love you with my whole heart <3” And this fan said “taylor swift put pretty much her life’s story into songs for us to hear, relate to, and let have a huge impact on our lives. its so so SO important that she can finally own, perform, and have control over her OWN work. taylor is free!!!” And while there were thousands more emotional tweets, there were also so many memes. Like this meme of Taylor and Scooter where this fan wrote “today’s mood TAYLOR IS FREE” And this classic Friends meme alongside the fan’s tweet that said, “MY QUEEN IS FINALLY FREE! SUPER EXCITED TO HEAR THE SONGS WITH
NEW VOCALS :’) TAYLOR IS FREE” And this person shared this meme and wrote “Taylor swift re-recording her country songs… I haven’t yee’d my last haw.” So clearly Swifties are excited about Taylor owning her music again, but that may mean saying goodbye to the old versions, which also has some fans all up in their feels, though they know it’s for the best. Taylor herself hasn’t spoken out about any of this yet, for now, she’s just been reminding her fans to get out there and vote. Which is an extremely important reminder! I hope you all have already voted or have made plans to vote tomorrow! And we can’t wait to see how Taylor reveals when she will be re-recording her music.
