Stalker 2 developer cancels NFT plans following backlash

Stalker 2 is the latest game by GSC Game World, the developer behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise. In an interview with Waypoint, GSC Game World’s CEO, Sergei Grigorovich, confirmed that Stalker 2 will include a non-fungible token (NFT) system that allows weapons and equipment to be traded between players. The game was announced at E3 2018, with PC Gamer reporting that it will be a survival shooter without the open world or RPG elements of the original. This is the latest controversy surrounding NFTs. Earlier this year, a developer behind a blockchain-based game called CryptoKitties was found to have used the NFTs as a way to defraud investors by inflating the value of the tokens.
