Qatar’s Foreign Minister has called for an end to the “ideological approach as it regards dealing with Taliban, and instead we should focus on their political engagement.”

Qatar’s foreign minister urged a shift away from “the ideological approach” in order to deal more effectively with Afghanistan’s resurgent Taliban insurgency during talks Monday at NATO headquarters. Qatar is one of only two Arab countries that have diplomatic relations with Russia-backed Syrian President Bashar al Assad, but now Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said he was willing to play host next month if all sides could agree on where such peace negotiations can take place
