Nicole Kidman reveals she started smoking to fully transform into the character of Lucille Ball

Nicole Kidman, 54, has revealed she started smoking to fully throw herself into her role as TV star Lucille Ball in her latest movie. The Australian actress has been married to country music star Keith Urban for 11 years and has two children with him. She has been smoking for years and has previously admitted using cigarettes and a fake cigarette holder to mimic Ball’s signature style.  In an interview with the US edition of Vogue magazine, she said: “I did smoke. I mean, I smoke, I’m not smoking right now. I’ve had a pack of cigarettes in my trailer for the last two weeks. “I was smoking just last night, before I went to bed, because it’s been a long time.”

The movie, called Being The Ricardos, sees the actress play the role of the famous star while she was pregnant with Desi Arnaz Jr. She told Net-A-Porter: ‘I wanted to really look pregnant, so I gained weight and I ate doughnuts every single day. ‘I smoked, because in those days they didn’t know if it was bad for you or not. It wasn’t like today, where you can’t smoke anywhere.’
