Mel B will reportedly be awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to domestic violence victims, according to reports. The former Spice Girl is set to be handed the accolade in her home city of Leeds ahead of her 42nd birthday next month, according to The Sun. A source close to the star told the newspaper: ‘Mel has a real fire in her belly about campaigning against domestic violence and she’s been an incredible advocate for getting the word out there.’

The singer, who is currently starring in the West End in the musical Chicago, is set to receive the honour in the New Year Honours list for her services to charity. Her award was announced on Sunday night on The One Show on BBC One by the show’s co-host Alex Jones, who said: ‘I’m so excited to tell you that we have got Mel B to come and talk to us live from the stage of Chicago, where she is starring as Roxie Hart.’ Mel B looked stunned as she said: ‘What? I’ve got a what? Oh my ***!’ She then said to the audience: ‘Shut up, shut up, shut up!’
