Kevin McCarthy is an American politician serving as the House Minority Leader in the United States House of Representatives since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he has served as the U.S. Representative for California’s 23rd congressional district since 2007.
Before entering politics, McCarthy worked as a small business owner and served on the Kern Community College District Board of Trustees. He was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2002, where he served as the Minority Leader from 2007 to 2009. In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and has been reelected every two years since.
In Congress, McCarthy has been a strong advocate for limited government, fiscal conservatism, and pro-business policies. He has also taken a tough stance on immigration, voting in favor of measures such as building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and increasing border security.

Outside of politics, McCarthy is married and has two children. He is a native of Bakersfield, California, and received a degree in marketing from California State University, Bakersfield.
