Details of NAB chairman’s assets could not be disclosed: Information Commission decision

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) has ruled on the details of assets of NAB officers, including the chairman and deputy chairman.

The Pakistan Information Commission, at the request of the citizen, ruled on the details of assets of NAB officers, including the chairman and deputy chairman.

Zahid Abdullah, the commissioner of the Information Commission, wrote in the decision that details of the assets of the chairman and deputy chairman of the NAB could not be given.

According to the decision, the assets of NAB directors, assistant directors and NAB regional DJs cannot be disclosed.

The decision of the Pakistan Information Commission further said that disclosure of assets of NAB officers and their families could harm their privacy and therefore private information of assets is not in the public interest.

In addition, the decision said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should release all investigative reports against its officers by November 28.

It may be recalled that Rana Asadullah, a citizen, had requested for information about the assets of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman NAB, in which it was stated that the assets of NAB officers and their families before and after NAB deployment should be disclosed.

The citizen later filed an appeal with the Pakistan Information Commission against the NAB for not providing information.
